Legislative Update for Week Ending August 29, 2014

Members of Congress remained in their home states and districts this week as the August recess continued.

Month-long Recess Continues

Members of the House and Senate remained in recess this week, and lawmakers in both chambers are expected to return to Capitol Hill on Monday, September 9th. Until then, many Members of Congress will be holding town hall meetings or attending local events. The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) encourages its members and supporters to attend these events in the coming days, since they are an excellent opportunity for constituents to communicate with their elected officials and have their concerns addressed before the November elections.

The following Members of Congress, among others, will hold town hall meetings over the Labor Day weekend: Sen. Johnny Isakson (GA), Sen. Deb Finscher (NE), Sen. Charles Grassley (IA), Rep. Larry Bucshon (IN-8), Rep. Blake Farenthold (TX-27), Rep. Brett Guthrie (KY-2), Rep. Keith Rothfus (PA-12), Rep. Diane Black (TN-6), Rep. Kevin Brady (TX-8), Rep. Kevin Cramer (ND), Rep. Robert Pittenger (NC-9), Rep. Phil Roe (TN-1), and Rep. Joe Barton (TX-6).

In addition, many lawmakers will be attending local events over the long holiday weekend. For example, Rep. Peter Roskam (IL-6) is hosting a discussion in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association for his Illinois constituents on Monday morning. At the event, he’ll be answering questions and updating attendees on his efforts in Congress to help eradicate Alzheimer’s disease.
