95% Say Congress Should Repay Money Owed To Social Security Trust Fund

A new poll by The Senior Citizens League found that the public wants the money owed to the Social Security Trust Fund to be repaid in full.  TSCL’s poll stated, “The federal government owes $2.8 trillion to the Social Security Trust Fund.”  When asked: “What do you think Congress should do?” only two percent said “reduce the federal debt by agreeing to benefit cuts.” Ninety-five percent said, “Repay the $2.8 trillion in full to provide benefits and make Social Security off limits in deficit reduction deals.”  Three percent were not sure.
