Find Help For Notch Babies — Benefits Check Up
The holidays are one of the few times during the year that most of the family gets together. It may be a good time for Notch Babies — especially those with limited incomes — to ask younger family members with computers to help you go online and do a “Benefits Check Up.” What you learn could prove to be the most valuable gift of the season.
Many seniors with lower incomes are eligible for benefits from existing federal, state and local programs that they don’t know about. BenefitsCheckUp is the nation’s most comprehensive service to screen seniors with limited incomes for benefit programs that provide assistance for:
- Prescription drugs
- Heating and utilities
- Nutrition
- Healthcare
- Housing
- Transportation
- Legal services
BenefitsCheckUp.org matches you with programs in your area and provides customized print-outs of contact information.
TSCL continues to build support for The Notch Fairness Act (H.R. 1001), introduced by Representative Mike McIntyre (NC-7), and (S.118) introduced by Senator David Vitter (LA). The legislation would provide Notch Babies, or survivors who receive benefits on their accounts, a choice of $5,000 payable in four annual installments, or an improved monthly benefit. As of September 30, 2011 the legislation had 35 co-sponsors.
