Legislative Update for Week Ending March 29, 2013

This week, action on Capitol Hill slowed down as Members of Congress adjourned for a holiday recess.

Holiday Recess Begins

Members of Congress returned to their home states and districts this week for a holiday recess that will last for two weeks. Members of the House are expected to return to Washington on Tuesday, April 9th, and Members of the Senate are expected to return on Monday, April 8th. Budget negotiations will likely resume at that time, as President Obama is slated to release his own plan for 2014 on April 8th.

In the meantime, TSCL would like to remind you that many Senators and Representatives will attend local events or schedule town hall meetings while they are in their home states and districts, giving constituents an excellent opportunity to voice their concerns. We encourage you to approach your Members of Congress and request their support for fair cost-of-living adjustments, Notch fairness, a permanent “doc fix,” and other key issues.

The following Members of Congress, among others, will hold town hall meetings in the upcoming week:

  • Sen. Tom Coburn (OK)
  • Sen. Jeff Merkley (OR)
  • Sen. Ron Wyden (OR)
  • Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13)
  • Rep. Bill Flores (TX-17)
  • Rep. Tom McClintock (CA-4)
  • Rep. Ed Royce (CA-39)
  • Rep. Jeff Denham (CA-10)
  • Rep. Joe Barton (TX-6)
  • Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-7)
  • Rep. Dennis Ross (FL-15)
