H.R. 574, Medicare Physician Payment Innovation Act

H.R. 574, Medicare Physician Payment Innovation Act

If signed into law, the Medicare Physician Payment Innovation Act would repeal the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and set up a five-year trial period during which the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services would test and evaluate new payment and delivery models. It would prevent scheduled pay cuts to physicians who treat Medicare patients, and it would stabilize reimbursements throughout the trial period.

Rep. Allyson Schwartz (PA-13) introduced H.R. 574 on February 6, 2013. It has since been referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce and to the Committee on Ways and Means where it awaits further action.
