Larry Madison - Legislative Consultant

Born and raised in Minnesota, Larry Madison moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1987 with his family to pursue a career as a copywriter and account executive at The Viguerie Company, a nationally known political fund-raising firm.  After three years at TVC, he left to become head of fund raising for the American Defense Institute, and then for the American Security Council, both non-profit organizations involved in supporting a strong national defense.

From there he moved to Association Growth Enterprises, where he was Director of Membership Development and Fund Raising for ten years.  His primary clients were military retiree associations and his responsibilities included creative management of their membership acquisition and fund-raising programs.

He continued his career at Bruce W. Eberle and Associates, another nationally-prominent direct marketing agency from 2002 – 2004, before making a career change and becoming Legislative Director for The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), the largest organization exclusively for retired enlisted military personnel from all branches of the armed services in the nation.  At TREA he was a registered lobbyist dealing with issues of concern to military retirees, including retired pay and health care.

While at TREA, Larry became familiar with The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), which was first established in 1992 as a special project of TREA. (In September 1994, TSCL was incorporated in Colorado as an independent citizens' action and education non-profit organization.)

After 13 years with TREA he retired from the organization at the end of 2018 and became TSCL's Legislative Consultant in September of 2019.

Paralleling his civilian career was his military career in the Army and Air Force reserve components as a senior non-commissioned officer.  He retired from the Maryland Air National Guard after 30 years of service in 2003.  In 1996, Larry was part of the first United States military mission to Romania since World War II.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Master Chaplains’ Assistant Badge.

Larry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato, Minn.  In addition, he completed all course work in the Church-State Studies graduate program at Baylor University, Waco, Texas.  He has also taken graduate course work at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Manassas Museum in Manassas, Virginia, and a former board member of the Retiresafe association.
