Legislative Update for Week Ending August 16, 2013

Action on Capitol Hill was slow this week as Members of Congress remained in their home states and districts for the August recess.

August Recess Continues

The month-long August recess continued this week, and Members of the House and Senate remained in their home states and districts. They are expected to return to Washington on Monday, September 9th. Until then, many Members of Congress will attend local events and hold town hall meetings. The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) urges its members and supporters to attend town halls in the coming weeks, since they are an excellent opportunity for constituents to communicate with their elected officials and have their concerns addressed.

The following Members of Congress, among others, will hold town halls this weekend: Sens. Michael Enzi (WY), Deb Fischer (NE), and David Vitter (LA), and Reps. Justin Amash (MI-3), Markwayne Mullin (OK-2), Adrian Smith (NE-3), Steve Southerland (FL-2), Steve Pearce (NM-2), Tom Reed (NY-23), Ami Bera (CA-7), Tim Griffin (AR-2), Tim Huelskamp (KS-1), Mark Meadows (NC-11), Harold Rogers (KY-5), Steve Scalise (LA-1), Daniel Webster (FL-10), Lynn Westmoreland (GA-3), and Rob Woodall (GA-7).
